The Five-Heart Pendant is a magical necklace given to Griseham by inhabitants of Greyfolk Isle, and later passed on to Agent Caraline Yatforth. Made from the hearts and blood of five Greyfolk, it is normally a simple trinket of little value. However, if the wearer has drank Greyfolk blood in the past, the necklace provides a powerful protective field against magical attacks.
The necklace functions off of the basic principles of a Greyfolk's biology. The entire anatomy of the Greyfolk is inherently resistant to magic, putting off a dampening field. The heart of the Greyfolk is the source of this power, and it's pumped through the Greyfolk's blood. however, the field only protects Greyfolk. Therefore, in order for the user to gain any benefit from the pendant, he or she has to consume Greyfolk blood. The pendant then channels its power through the wearer's blood. However, because it contains the hearts of five Greyfolk, its powers are vastly superior.
Normally, the life energy of the Greyfolk is what powers the anti-magic effects of the Greyfolk heart. However, the pendant has been modified to draw magical energy from the air and from any spells that try to penetrate its field.
Effects
The pendant disrupts magic around the wearer. Any magic that attempts to directly affect the conditioned wearer is absorbed and diffused by the pendant, making it impossible to kill or harm the wearer via more direct magic spells. It also severely blunts magical projectiles and other magical effects.
It also blocks other spells; it's impossible for a mage to scry, track, or in any way magically pinpoint the wearer's location. It also dampens the wearer's own magical field, making them invisible to other mages. Other magicians who try to sense the wearer will quickly find themselves unable to lock a spell onto the wearer or attach spells to the wearer.
Furthermore, every spell that hits the pendant only serves to temporarily bolster the pendant's power. Energy from spells that enter its field are absorbed into the pendant, increasing both is range and effectiveness. Even scrying spells get absorbed by the pendant, leaving a blank spot in the scry where the wearer is located.
The pendant has a tendency to glow whenever a spell of moderate or greater power hits it, which has the useful property of alerting the wearer to the attack.
