- Player Nalyd, from the perspective of Exile.

Tyinomatas is an anti-mage and riot control weapon used by Agent Simon Yatforth. It's a small, nearly foot-long wand with a white-sapphire tip. Despite its rather feeble appearance, Tyinomatas is a very formidable weapon. When fired, it launches a small, white bolt of energy which burns through anything it hits, up to the equivalent of four inches of solid adamantine. Care must be taken when firing the wand, for it has a propensity to damage not only the target, but also whatever's behind it. Tyinomatas can hold up to 22 charges at one time, and slowly recharges itself over time.

Effects

Tyinomatas is an extremely deadly weapon for reasons other than the sheer power of the bolts; each bolt can bypass almost any ward known to mankind. Wards and shields outright ignore Tyinomatas's projectiles, meaning that bolts pass through unobstructed. Unconventional means of protection often fail as well; even intangibility won't provide immunity from the blasts, because the raw power in the bolts will actually bleed into the victim's incorporeal form as it passes. This results in Tyinomatas being an excellent way to bring down enemy spellcasters. Only two known magical shields are effective against the blasts, and only one of them can outright stop the shot cold. Even then, the sheer amount of firepower in each blast usually means that the shield has a very short lifespan.

The raw energy involved is also capable of (temporarily) killing Esrever, although this has never been done.

History

Its creator, Griseham, had Tyinomatas for sixty years. Its creation was by accident; as a student of wandmaking, Griseham had decided to try his hand at making a new kind of wand. He wrote down a series of runes that were meant to fire a bolt of fire that could bypass ordinary fire wards. However, suppressed knowledge of Erosian runework bled through, and the result was Tyinomatas, which as his then-master had noted, shouldn't work at all. The rune pattern was scrambled and incorrect. Undaunted, Griseham had decided to test-fire the wand, and wound up blasting a hole through a nearby wall and every other building in the projectile's flight path.

Tyinomatas received its name after Griseham arrived on Tanton. In his dealings with the Tantonites, Griseham had at one point fired the wand, leading the natives to term the wand Tyinomatas, which loosely translates into 'Death-bringer'.

When Griseham awoke from his Deep Cover, he passed the wand on to Simon Yatforth, a fellow Erite who was hunting the sword Atholasha.
