Griseham was a character in A New World Opens. A wandmaker of seventy years, he acted as the de facto leader of Tantonia, and was later revealed to be a humanoid alien known as an Erite.

Physical Traits and Appearance

Griseham appears to be an 83-year-old white male with silver hair, brown eyes, and a scruffy beard. He lacks any definite muscles, but it has been noted that he has a barely-perceptible glow whenever in a dark location.

Griseham appears younger than he actually is; this stems from his biology as an Erite.

Mentality

Outwardly cool and collected, but inwardly irrational. While he generally despises political power as a result of his time with Lord Turin, he enjoys positions of power due to the impetus he feels which stems from his inability to focus magic. Compassionate.

Residence

Used to reside in a small manor outside of Tantonia on the Isle of Tanton, which had been Griseham's home for over thirty years. Now lives back on Eros.

Duties

While not in any official capacity, Griseham acted as the leader of Tantonia and made all of the major decisions. He took it upon himself to protect the tiny outcast nation at all costs, knowing what would happen if they were discovered. It was later revealed that he was in fact an Erosian Councilor, who had placed himself undercover on Andaria to track down a dangerous weapon now known as Atholasha.

Abilities

Griseham was the ultimate paradox of the magic world; despite immense magical reserves which are usually built up over years of experience, he lacks any magical talent beyond the simplest tasks. Any attempt at magic will usually go awry. This has suited him to making wands; wands require vasts amounts of energy to charge, and because of the simplicity of the spell involved to charge them, Griseham can reliably create wands of power beyond any normal wizard. That said, he can invoke simple magical tricks in a pinch; very light-weight healing, mild telekinesis, and the simplest offensive and defensive spells are within his grasp. Anything beyond that will fail drastically.

Possessions

Griseham usually carries a variety of wands on his person in case he runs into trouble. Most are combat wands, but he also usually carries a baton capable of conjuring shields or healing. He also wears expensive silk clothing.

Tyinomatas

Tyinomatas was Griseham's favored weapon; it's a small, nearly foot-long wand with a white-sapphire tip. Despite its rather feeble appearance, Tyinomatas is a very formidable weapon. When fired, it launches a small, white bolt of energy which burns through anything it hits, up to the equivalent of four inches of solid adamantine.

Tyinomatas is one-of-a-kind; Griseham created it by accident, and was not able to duplicate it, despite twenty years of trying. He has since passed it on to Erite Agent Simon Yatforth.

NPC Acquaintances

Griseham knows most of citizens of Tantonia. Among the more important are:

  • Anaya - Griseham's wife. A ship's captain. Left with Griseham for Eros.
  • Captain Dalmas - Captain of the Loveless.
  • Commander Dulford - An ex-commander of Lord Turin's armies, and the tactical mind of Tanton.
  • Mayor Gabthen - Mayor of Tantonia.
  • Captain Honja Torres - Captain of the Lioness. Recently arrived in Tantonia.
  • Hontis - Master shipwright of Tantonia.
  • Horace - Tantonia's blacksmith. Heavy-set.
  • Fletch - Tantonia's bowyer and fletcher.
