Early Life

Darnel was born on the fourth day of June in 445 in the port-town of Samhan, located on the extreme northern section of western Andaria. Her father, Jacob Clifford Darnel, was a rear Admiral in the Imperial Navy and attempted to raise her to follow orders and the government explicitly. It isn’t known if this was effective or not. When Admiral Darnel was killed in a battle between the Kingdom and the warring nation of Surrana, his wife, Lauren, was left bitter. Indeed, Lauren became a frequent abuser of alcohol and occasionally fell into trances where she claimed to see the future. Disturbed by her broken family, she fled her home in Samhan at the age of fifteen to the city of Tekubur. There, she took up residence with an elderly mage known only as Ko, where she stayed for the next six years.

Education

Following Ko’s influence to learn more about magic, she attended the Tower of the Arts in Yitsograd, where she learned under the supervision of then-administrator Aaron Westhoven. Previous to its destruction in 489, the tower specialized in the instruction of telepathic transforcement: an education doctrine that, when used correctly, allows the user to channel energy from their environment into other items to move or disrupt matter. Upon a honorable dismissal, her services were requisitioned to the western Andarian dessert in anticipation of the Rebellion of 470, where she studied under who we know today as Nebulan Gutariae.

The Rebellion and Castle Stalt

Following the appointment of King Ruaidhri, rebellious leaders, hiding out the Andarian countryside saw a lapse in governmental policy and increasing tension between nobles. This tension could, conceivably, have been manipulated to cause political shockwaves if a rebellion occurred in the appropriate place. Certain nobles, such as Lord Stalt, felt the need to intervene while not appearing to be concerned or expending resources on these issues. The solution was to send out several covert operations in the category of the government that receives the least attention: The mages. Darnel was assigned to Nebulan as one of those teams to eliminate radical leaders. This style of covert tracking also required logic and speed, especially if something were to go wrong and the two needed to defend themselves; thus, it suited her style.

Unfortunately for the Kingdom, the subtle attempts to stop a potential rebellion failed. In around the end of the year of 484, secondary and tertiary rebellion leaders plotted to seize the fortress of Castle Stalt. During the early evening, rebels managed to make some sort of small explosion that killed Lord Stalt. Moments after the assassination, insurgents came out of hiding and began to attack the guards and seized public buildings. After several failed attempts to quash the uprising, Darnel gave to order to attempt to contain the rebels in the western quarter of town, lock the gates, and burn the quarter. Controversy ensued shortly after the burning, as the western quarter of Castle Stalt was largely residential. King Ruaidhri had decided that her choice of action was best, pardoned her from any questionable wrongdoing, and later promoted her to one of two High Mages. Against the recommendation of High Mage Snite, Darnel was given complete control over the Dark glass project maintained at the Tower of the Arts at Rouen Isle.

Physical Appearance and Mentality

Darnel is described to have short, red/orange hair and a generally fit physique. She stands at five foot – five inches. It is mentioned that she has a small scar on her forehead that she was “Neither trying to flaunt nor hide”. As is the general dress code for leaders of the Kingdom, Darnel can be seen wearing a deep purple, velvet robe with black cotton trim. It also features subtle gold-spiraling designs on the backs of the robe’s arms. In sharp contrast, when on assignment, she has taken no hesitation to dawning the garments of a perspective when duty calls. Darnel is generally mild tempered and easy going, though she can erupt when feeling as though her authority is not taken seriously. In an attempt to “prevent herself from going mad” she will attempt to lighten the mood with ridiculous forms of sarcasm delivered in unusually tense situations.

Relations with others

High Mage Darrius Snite – The relationship between High Mage Snite and Darnel has always been especially tense. Snite had recommending against Darnel becoming a High Mage and referred to her has having “a distinct lack of qualifications for the job”. Darnel had filed a report in 487 with Kind Rudaihri stating that Snite has repeatedly violated approved practices of Magic by expending a great deal of resources on researching banned spells and techniques. This report has, apparently, been dismissed without inquisition. In 490 Snite issue warrants for both Darnel and Nebulan for heresy and sedition for her research with the Dark glass project.

Nebulan - She has worked for Nebulan for many years hunting rebels and other extremist organization’s leaders. She has come to trust him and rely on his tactics that she can predict best. Because of this the two make an efficient team, especially when facing a foe alone.

Adrasha Vaux - Darnel's mentality drives her to not make enemies out of people she doesn't know, no matter circumstantial evidence. This was the case with her brief contact with Adrasha in the Tower of the Arts at Rouen Isle. The meeting was in a traditional interrogation style, but in a manner that wouldn't inspire any aggression towards her in the future. Later, Adrasha traveled to the High Tower of the Arts seeking help to locate and rescue her son. The High Mage travels with her now, bound for the Hex Plane.

Guards in General - Darnel has always made an effort to personally know the names of the majority of the guards in her tower as well as any other she bumps into. This tendency makes her fell more at ease in her stressful occupation while allowing her to personally hold a guard or guards responsible for inappropriate conduct.

Duran - In the act of knowing her guard's names she has become attached to some of them. One such solder is Lieutenant Duran, usually assigned to Nebulan. His strong commitment to duty and his swordsmanship has earned the High Mage’s respect. She makes sure his is brought along when she is needed outsider her tower.
