Agent Caraline Yatforth is an agent of an alien council in A New World Opens. Specializing in infiltration and reconnaissance, she's working with her brother, Simon Yatforth, to find and retrieve a powerful weapon known as Atholasha and protect it from enemy agents thusfar known only as the Karo. She also has another mission on Andaria, which has not yet been revealed.
Physical Traits and Appearance
Caraline Yatforth is an Erite; an alien anthropoid strongly resembling a human. Outwardly, there isn't much difference between an Erite and a human. The only immediate indicators are her unusually bright green eyes and exceptionally pale skin. Someone looking closely would notice that an Erite's skin pigmentation leans to the blue side of the color spectrum, rather than the human red. In height, Caraline measures in at 6'1". She is thinly-built for an Erite, yet her muscle mass and skeletal structure puts her weight at an astonishing 295 pounds.
The Erite is inherently stronger and faster than a human, and capable of taking more of a beating. This, coupled with Yatforth's intense training, has made her a very daunting foe to face in a fight.
Caraline generally prefers simple dresses in dark colors. Common apparel for her includes a black or dark red dress with lightweight boots.
Mentality
Compassionate and optimistic, sometimes to a fault. She tends to take the diplomatic approach to most situations, and generally considers violence an option of last resort. She tends to think deeply and gets philosophical. She prefers working as part of a team, and not bearing an entire mission on her shoulders alone. Despite this, her harsh training to become an Erite agent means that her emotions become almost entirely muted during an intense situation.
During downtime, she tends to be extremely friendly and gets on well with others. She generally makes a special exception for her brother, Simon.
Abilities
Being an Erite has many advantages, which have been further pushed by her training. She is faster and more powerful than any known human, and can take a powerful beating in return. Like any Erite agent, she has been trained extensively in hand-to-hand martial arts and Garotis marksmanship.
If one were to do an immediate comparison of her and her brother Simon, one would assume that she was the less powerful of the duo. This is not true; when it comes to a fight, Caraline is in fact more powerful and faster on her feet. However, this tends to be offset by her reluctance to kill.
She also has a high ESQ, enabling her to channel high levels of raw magical energy. She is not a mage; she can merely release the energy or manipulate it within her own body. This enables her to heal wounds, fire blasts of energy, or shield herself from attack. She's also capable of transferring this energy to another being or object, though once it leaves her, she loses control over it. She can operate any device using Erosian runework as well. Like before, Caraline in fact has the higher ESQ, and can channel more of this energy than her brother.
Being an Erite also has its downsides. Erite biology is meant for lower temperatures than a human, and will burn at a lower temperature than a human as well. Additionally, her body mass and density make swimming a particularly daunting and exhausting task.
Residence
Nebulan's abandoned tower on Rouen Isle, which serves both as a home and as a base of operations.
Duties
Her primary duties consist of whatever the Erosian council wills. Her missions usually include infiltrating hostile territory and gathering intelligence. Right now, she has two missions on Andaria. The first is to find Deftinfox's weapon, Atholasha, and return it to the Erosian Councilate. The second is known only to her.
Relationship with Others
Caraline Yatforth is an outgoing and compassionate person, and tends to put others before herself. Despite this, however, her occupation means that she usually doesn't forge long-lasting bonds.
Agent Simon Yatforth
Caraline's brother. On the surface, they get along poorly, constantly bickering with each other and generally making their lives a living hell. This has only been made worse by Caraline acting as senior agent on the mission to Andaria, something which irritates Simon to no end. Despite this, however, they both love each other deeply, and would lay down their lives for one another.
Possessions
Aside from her expensive clothes and rather prominent necklace, there are no immediately noticeable belongings on his person. However, she carries a concealed wand, and wears a bracelet concealed under her wrist.
Five-Heart Pendant
A necklace once belonging to an Erite known as Griseham, the Five-Heart Pendant is a magical necklace made from the hearts and blood of five Greyfolk. It creates a powerful anti-magic field around the wearer, rendering the wearer immune to any sort of magic performed directly on a person, and highly resistant to magical effects or projectiles. Since it draws strength on magical energy, spells launched into the field only serve to bolster the pendant's effects.
Mark-II Garotis
A metallic wand with an orange gemstone tip, the Mark-II Garotis is a favored weapon amongst Erite military endeavors. When fired, the weapon launches a blast of orange energy. Upon contact with inanimate material, it typically will simply burn through it. When it hits a living creature, however, the energy absorbs into the creature, overloading it and generally causing its body to collapse under itself. At the point of impact, it typically leaves a large burn.
A hit from a Mark-II Garotis will typically knock a target back as well. The purpose of this is to stop a reinforced attacker from simply charging through multiple blasts.
Comcrystal
A must for most Erite spies. A comcrystal is an Erite device designed for communicating with someone who is not immediately present. Each comcrystal is custom designed, and can only communicate with other comcrystals designed to receive it. They are activated typically by rolling the gem in whatever setting it's built into, and is generally made to appear as simple jewelry.
NPC Acquaintances
Caraline's only acquaintance of note is Hathar, an Oran in the shape of a cat.
