Weapons in PS
A list of the various weaponry in Planetary Strife
Light Arms
Light arms are generally classified as weapons wielded by a human. For a full list, see Light Arms in PS.
Semi-Automatics
Semi-automatic pistols are projectile weapons. Dating back to ancient days, these weapons propel a bullet via a contained explosion. Semi-automatics come in various shapes and sizes.
Aldarian Pistol
- Main article: Aldarian Pistol
Also known as a Lightning Pistol or Lightning Gun, the Aldarian Pistol is an energy weapon fires a laser to ionize a path of air, followed by a powerful arc of electricity. It's used both as a less-lethal weapon for subduing people and as a deadly weapon.
Plasma Pistol
The Plasma Pistol is an energy weapon that fires packets of plasma. Extremely dangerous, but it shortcomings prevent it from being a standard sidearm. The barrel and frame is extremely large and bulky, with the magazine attached to the top of the barrel. The magazine holds a meager four shots, the blasts of plasma are inaccurate, and the weapon has a rather short range due to blooming.
Heavy Arms
Heavy arms are generally classified as weapons that are mounted on vehicles.
Plasma Cannons
The common armament of ships, plasma cannons are powerful energy weapons capable of doing incredible damage to physical objects. It comes in two forms; the first fires just plasma at the target, while the second fires packets of plasma. The former generally has a faster fire rate and holds out longer, but is prone to blooming and loses effectiveness at long ranges. The latter has better range and does more damage, but has a considerably more limited ammo capacity.
Plasma Cannons are effective against armored targets, but shields tend to resist the weapons effectively.
TI-86 Chaingun
- Full article: TI-86 Chaingun
The TI-86 is the primary weapon on Derilict infantry vehicles.
Jet Plasma Cannons
A variant of plasma cannon, the Jet Plasma Cannon is an experimental weapon designed by the Aldarians. Instead of firing a single blast, it fires a stream of plasma at the target, massively increasing the amount of damage done at a time. It works at the cost of considerably higher energy usage, and thus is useless on smaller craft. It has a reload time comparable to a regular plasma cannon, thus making it a formidable weapon to go against. Caution must be taken when firing, however, since the weapon rapidly overheats.
Railguns
A primitive yet powerful weapon. The Railgun is a projectile weapon, with similar aspects to normal firearms. It fires magnetically-accelerated bullets at an extreme rate. However, railgun projectiles tend to move slowly compared to normal projectiles. Because they have mass, and thus high momentum, they tend to do incredible damage to shields. However, smaller railguns tend to have trouble against solid objects, such as an actual ship. Additionally, they can't be fired for lengthy periods of time, since they're prone to overheating.
Particle Cannons
Really not sure how to describe this one... --Nioca 21:55, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
Electro-Magnetic Pulse Emitters
Small energy weapons, these emit large EMP pulses designed solely for taking out shields. Since they have little effect on actual matter, they aren't effective in doing actual damage against ships. However, they are absolutely devastating against shields.
Pulse Rifles
Otherwise described as a railgun without the bullets, pulse rifles are a projectile-energy hybrid weapon. Pulse rifles fire hyper-compressed charged hydrogen projectiles, encased by a small blast of plasma. The resultant white bolt of energy is faster than normal railgun bullets, and doesn't lose effectiveness at range. It also has an extremely high rate of fire, and the added benefit of momentum increases the damage done over normal weapons.
There are four types of Pulse Rifle. The first is the original, which carried a load of compressed hydrogen as ammunition. However, it was extremely easy to burn through pulse rifle ammo. As a solution, Ram Pulse Rifles and Regenerating Pulse Rifles were developed. The former has a small ramscoop attached to the rear to gather stray hydrogen particles in-flight, while the latter directly manufactures new hydrogen atoms. Both helped alleviate the ammunition problem. Eventually, the Combined Pulse Rifle was created, which used both ramscoops and direct manufacturing to supply ammunition. As a result, the original has been mostly phased out of active use.
Using pulse rifles efficiently is a bit of an art. It's extremely easy to burn through one's entire ammo supply within the first fifteen seconds of battle, the weapons are prone to overheating, and ones that generate their ammo drain energy quickly. Even with rifles that renew their ammo supply, it's highly possible to exceed the rate at which its ammo is replaced, thus slowing the firing process.
Pulse Rifles are also able to be personalized. While the normal pulse rifle projectile is a bright white, adding certain gases to the projectile's plasma mixture can change the color of it.
Pulse Rifles are effective against both matter and shields.
