Derilict Army

The following details all you need to know about the Derilict Army.

Ranks

The Derilict army is much less structured than the Derilict navy, and has a much shorter command structure.

  1. Lancer: The basic rank in the Army. No rank markings.
  2. Squad Leader: Commands twenty Lancers. No relation to Navy Squad Leaders. One caret on each shoulder.
  3. Captain: Commands a company (five squads). Internally divided into undercaptains, captains, and overcaptains. No relation to Navy Captains. Rank markings are one, two, or three knots of green thread on each shoulder.
  4. Commander: Commands a battalion of five companies. No relationship to Navy commanders. Rank marking is one rose on the left breast.
  5. General: Highest possible rank in the Army. Given command of a force (a group of battalions acting together). Rank marking is a rose on each shoulder. Equal to Navy Admirals.

Classes

Derilict Light Infantry

The light infantry is Derilict's primary force. The average infantryman has the following:

Derilict infantrymen usually travel in D-16 ground vehicles.

Derilict Heavy Infantry

Expensive and slow-moving, the heavy infantry is Derilict's rarest sight. Dressed in a steel exoskeleton that covers every part of the soldier's body, one heavy infantryman can lift a D-16 above his head and hurl it 2 cSn into the air. Their weapon of choice: the Derilict light railgun (the same model seen on some D-16s). Heavy infantrymen are given brain implants to interface with their suits of armor. This causes the armor to become merely an extension to the wearer's body, rather than an encumbrance.

The suits feature small DEM emitters, to protect the wearer even further.

Heavy Infantrymen usually travel by shuttle or by foot.

Derilict Cavalry

The cavalry is Derilict's compromise between the artillery and the infantry. Cavalrymen are usually dressed as light infantrymen, and pilot ground craft such as the T-12 Skimmer hovercraft and the E-3 Titan exoskeleton.

Derilict Artillery

The Derilict Artillery is the workhorse of the army. Troops are armed similarly to the Light Infantry, and pilot craft like the S-47 Skyle and the M-1 Lofter.

Vehicles

D-16 Ground Vehicle

The D-16 is an wheeled general-use vehicle. It can carry four light infantrymen well as another in a chaingun turret between the two troopers in the back. It provides significant armor to protect the occupants from enemy fire.

Variants

Cargo Transport

Removing the back two seats, the turret, and the rear protective panel allows the D-16 to carry a large one-ton pallet of supplies.

The Pyro

Commonly, a company of light infantry will have one or two D-16s with P-12 Kaylas Flamethowers instead of chainguns. These are very useful against enemy infantry.

Anti-tank

For attacking artillery, some D-16s are mounted with railguns rather than chainguns. These have been known to punch through a two-inch plate of steel.

E-3 Titan Exoskeleton

Standing fifteen feet tall, the Titan is a walking tank. Carrying three people, it is a very formidable assault vehicle. Two rotating turrets are mounted in the 'shoulders' of the Titan, and the driver contols the weaponry mounted on the 'arms'. Each arm carries a Derilict light railgun, a chaingun, and a small flamethrower. The Titan's steel armor is augmented by small DEM emitters mounted in several locations.

T-12 Skimmer

A floating vehicle powered by two Starlancer LAMFM engines, the Skimmer carries nine troopers (one driver and eight gunners). The driver sits in the front, four gunners are on each side of the craft, and two are positioned on the roof of the vehicle. Usual armament is two railguns, four chainguns, and two Fury Missile launchers.

S-47 Skyle

Named after it's inventor, the Skyle is Derilict's tank. With huge treads four feet wide, the Skyle is outfitted with ten gun emplacements and a huge plasma cannon. Any ship or building hit with the Skyle's main gun will cease to exist. However, all the armor and weaponry make the twelve man machine a slow, lumbering beast.

M1 Lofter

Derilict's answer to long-range artillery. The Lofter is very light armored and slow, even slower than the Skyle when fully-loaded with ammo, even though it carries no defensive turrets. Thus, it usually stays well back from the front lines.

However, this does not make the enemy safe. The lofter can throw a shell 15 Sn and hit within an inch of the targeted space. One Lofter shell can level a hillside. Thus, they are seldom used in an actual battle, prefering to strike the enemy's camp.

An example of the Lofter's accuracy can be seen in the field tests for it. Using computer-guided telemetry, the Lofter hit a ruined Starcruiser LAMFM coil returning to Derilict atmosphere from 2 Sn away. This coil no longer exists.

Navy Relations

The Army is on good terms with the navy, as they need them to get around in space. Many army manuvers are directed by Navy ships in orbit.

Airstrikes

At the army's request, Navy T-86s perform airstrike duties. These airstrikes are very accurate and usually remove all signs of the enemy, including the ground the enemy was on.

Aldarian Rainfall

Aldarian Rainfall is hardly as peaceful as it sounds. When a request for Aldarian Rainfall is called, all Navy ships in orbit pull into the upper atmosphere, point their turrets at the requested location, and simultaneously fire for several minutes. The tactic was developed by esteemed general Piran Skyle, and was only used in combat by him, one time. Although not as devastating as DARs, Aldarian Rainfall comes close, however, the area affected is much more contained.

Ironically, the Aldarians did not develop the tactic, nor do they use it. Derilict seems to be the only nation actively teaching Aldarian Rainfall to its military.
