A Blades Nexus is a magical device on the Internet Plane that siphons the reality from Ermaria and uses it to power BladesCraft within a set radius. Blades Nexuses are extremely rare; there are currently only four known devices in existence. Two of them are located at Calamity Refuge, one in the Blades of Avernum Forum, and the other in Nioca's Citadel.

Blades Nexuses are not intended to power true BladesCraft; instead, they power written or conjured scripts within the device's operating range, performing actions based on whatever code is written out. This is to avoid two key problems with true BladeCraft: The first is that powering actual BladesCraft puts heavy strain on the Blades Nexus, often causing it to overheat from any prolonged use. The second is that it draws a lot of power as is, and getting enough power for it to filter and siphon Ermaria's reality can be problematic.

It is, however, possible to modify a Blades Nexus to power true BladesCraft; Nioca has made such adjustments to the Blades Nexus in the Blades of Avernum forum, with great success.

Blades Nexuses can run on either electrical or magical power, but usually use an amalgam of the two. It's important to keep Blades Nexuses away from most other complex magical devices, particularly other Nexuses. The magical interference generated by the device can cause severe mishaps, and if the radius of another Blade Nexus overlaps, the resultant competition can result in rather unfortunate magical problems.

GeneNexus

A GeneNexus is a more streamlined version of the Blades Nexus, meant to siphon reality from a different plane to power GeneCraft. There are currently only two known devices in existence; one in the Spiderweb Software, and the other in Calamity Refuge's Geneforge Forum. It's possible that a third one exists in The Roost, but such accounts are unconfirmed.
