The AIS Radiance is an experimental multi-purpose capital ship, and a test run of the Aldari Solcruiser design of vessel (informally called a Frontier Ship). Designed to be a self-sufficient platform for a variety of vessels, its intended purpose is to secure unexplored or unheld territory, without the need for risking cargo vessels or deploying heavier military vessels.

Like all Aldari designs, the Radiance values function over form, looking like a gigantic shelled insect from a distance. Measuring in at 2.1 Sn long, 1.8 Sn wide, and 1.5 Sn high, the Radiance is one of the largest vessels in the Aldari fleet, dwarfed only by the Gaia-class motherships. It's also currently one of the most expensive vessels in the Aldari fleet as well, costing well over 1,850,000,000 credits to design and produce.

Ship Design and Specifications

The Radiance is designed to fill both the roles of a battlecruiser and a mobile base, with no upkeep. On one hand, this makes it one of the most flexible ships developed to-date. On the other hand, it also means that it performs sub-par when compared to similarly-sized vessels.

Power and Propulsion

Intended to be completely self-sufficient, the Radiance has two systems designed to recharge the ship. The first is a Maliki Engineering-built experimental battery matrix, connected to hull-wide solar plating and an adjustable solar fan. The second is a series of molecular ramscoops, backed by an experimental fuel generation system that creates fuel out of the scooped molecules for both the Radiance and any ships in its berth. When orbiting a star, both systems work in tandem, providing enough energy to recharge the ship's main battery matrix even as the ship is running.

The ship also has an antimatter reactor for emergency situations, though it lacks the fuel for long-term use. Notably, all the antimatter reactor is built for is recharging the ship's battery matrix; all systems run off the main battery matrix alone.

The ship's primary propulsion is a doubly-redundant Gravetic Drive for deep space travel, and three capital-sized Derelict-Industries LAMFMS for energy-efficient intra-system travel.
